We’ve Moved Locations!

Complete Packaging Systems is excited to announce that we have moved! Although we loved our previous office location in Whitby, ON, we have moved on to bigger and better things. Having our own warehouse space will also allow for new and innovative product development opportunities. We are very excited about this new development for Complete Packaging Systems and cannot wait to strive at our new facility.

We kindly ask that you update your current head office address for Complete Packaging Systems and/or Scarborough, ON/Laval, QC warehouse addresses with our new address as shown below. Our emails and mainline numbers remain the same.

2019 AAR Damage Prevention & Freight Claim Conference

As in previous years, Complete Packaging Systems was delighted to attend the Annual AAR Damage Prevention and Freight Claim Conference held last month. This year’s 127th Annual AAR DP & FC Conference was held in Omaha, Nebraska from July 8th-11th 2019. The three-day conference covered a variety of industry updates, trends and developments that occurred over the past year.

The conference began with an overview of the Paper, Automotive and Food & Beverage Industry. The overviews included manufacturing outputs, sales and consumer trends. Union Pacific’s Mexico Franchise and Union Pacific’s Cold Connect operations were also discussed.

The bulk of this year’s conference focused on three major “breakout” rail shipments in the industry: Paper, Open-Top and Automotive. The Paper Breakout portion of the conference provided a 101 session for Roll Paper Load Plan Creations covering load plan software, shipment trials and obtaining AAR Approvals. The Open-top Breakout portion of the conference covered topics such as pipe shipments, required railcar clearance updates, the development of new securement products in open-top shipments, military vehicle shipments and how drones have become useful for rail safety/monitoring. Finally, the Automotive breakout session of the conference discussed updates to quality and training sessions, vehicle inspections and how the changes in modern car designs is changing the way cars need to be shipped.

The conference ended with an overview of railcar fleet trends, rail industry updates, factors affecting and creating changes in our industry, the effects of spring deflection on center of gravity height, intermodal distribution and a preview of changes for 2020.

The amount of industry updates and knowledge that Complete Packaging Systems was able to acquire at this years AAR DP & FC Conference was outstanding. Every year there are new technology and safety developments that help improve the rail industry. A full breakdown of this year’s AAR DP & FC Conference and some of the presentations can be found at the AAR’s webpage. For any questions regarding cargo securement and your load plan, contact one of our knowledgeable technical sales and service representatives by calling 866-858-8800.

2018 AAR Damage Prevention & Freight Claim Conference

Earlier this month, Complete Packaging Systems had the pleasure of attending the 126th AAR Damage Prevention & Freight Claim Annual Conference in Nashville, TN. This year’s conference presentations reminded us just how much the industry has advanced over the past few years. Each year the industry seems to flourish in technology developments and safety enhancements. With safety being our main concern, Complete Packaging Systems is eager to attend this conference every year.

This year’s conference covered topics ranging from North American Trade and its impact on railroads to autonomous trucking. Throughout the entire industry, technology changes are being made to make the industry safer and more automated. Autonomous trucking, Positive Train Control, rail trip optimizers, smart sensors, delivery drones and more are all being researched to discover a more efficient way to deliver products safely within a supply chain. Even the testing for rail cars and securement products has advanced. Simulators used to test securement products and modes of transportation have become life-like and can pick up on the smallest vibration or shock that could affect the cargo within.

Furthermore, the AAR has published numerous General Information Series over the past year, helping to continuously improve freight standards and guidelines for shipments passing through rail. Along with the new GISs, new securement products have been developed and tested to ensure product arrives safely to its destination; ranging from products designed to hold down barrels during transit to products that prevent cars and automotive from shifting during transit.

A lot of developments and changes were discussed at the AAR Conference regarding what we can look forward to in the next generation in the industry, filled with technology advancements and automation. Participating in the annual AAR Damage Prevention & Freight Claim conference keeps us up-to-date with the newest industry regulations and developments. 2016 AAR Conference

This year has been full of changes and growth both within our own company and throughout the industry. We are excited to share some of the highlights from this year’s AAR Meeting regarding some of the newest changes and advancement in our industry today.

In this industry, load securement and customer safety are our greatest concerns. It is important to always stay up to date with the latest technology and product standards to ensure all safety requirements are met. Each year the industry comes together to discuss these important advancements within our industry so we all are able to serve our customers with their safety in mind.

This years AAR Conference touched on a wide variety of subjects regarding why rail transit safety is so important, updated best practices for product use, and which products are best for which situations. Our very own Darren Burden was able to shed some light on how to properly use our Dunnage bags in closed car settings. Some others discussed which risers and void fillers work best and the safety improvements of loading paper into boxcars. Our industry has created strategic research initiatives to consistently improve our everyday damage prevention procedures.

However, there are many more layers to the AAR Conference that touch on many other subjects regarding customer safety. A portion of the discussions, for example,  focused on automotive improvements, some of which reside in Mexico and also how the railway advancements can positively affect customer security. We have learned there is always more we can do as an industry to grow and advance in damage prevention.

Complete Packaging Systems understands the importance of damage prevention when it comes to what matters most, our customers. This is why we take pride in our involvement with the AAR Conference every year so we can better learn how to help our customers in the future and to teach others how they can do the same.

We’ve Moved!

20160704_150139_PanoFor the last 9 years we have made 1375 Hopkins Street our home, but now it is time to move on… to just down the street! Complete Packaging System has said goodbye to our previous location and has recently moved into a brand new building where we hope to continue to produce brand new ideas!

During the railway rush in 1876, a contractor had our new home, formally known asRingwood Manor, built in the town we now call Whitby, Ontario. Unfortunately, after an economic decline in that arena, the bank foreclosed the property before the turn of the century. Since then, the building has seen a great many owners and curators but after a house fire this majestic manor was left alone for a time. After numerous renovations this beautiful structure was completely revitalized and new residents moved in. As the most recent tenants we couldn’t be happier to be a part of it’s rich history.

The move took place on June, 20th 2016. Now, as we settle in to our new home, we ask that you update the current address with our new one. Our phone numbers and other information will all continue to be the same, it is only our address that you will need to update.

Below you will find our old and new addresses for your convenience.

Complete Packaging Holiday Party

At this time of year, it is important to be grateful for those around you. At Complete Packaging Systems’ annual holiday party on December 11th, we made sure to spend some time with those we care about. After everyones hard work this year, we celebrated our successes and enjoyed each others company before years end.

We would like to thank The Omni King Edward Hotel in Toronto, Ontario for being such gracious hosts. We spent the evening eating delicious food and dancing the night away, with musical entertainment by the talented Jordan Hart and Emily Schultz. We spent time looking at our past this year and looked ahead to what we would like to accomplish next year. We are all so excited to see how much stronger we can become as a company in the future.

We also got a chance to share the results from our 7 Week Fit Bit Challenge. Each of our employees were challenged to wear a Fit Bit to monitor their steps over the course of this time period, with a goal of 70,000 steps a week. At the holiday party, we had everyones results tallied and each of our employees were given a gift for their job well done. Some of our employees went above and beyond their required steps, with a whopping 127,000 steps a week! We are so happy to know that our employees are staying active and living a healthy life.

The party this year was a complete success, and we look forward to coming together again next year to celebrate our new progress. From our family to yours, have a Happy Holiday and a Happy New Year!

Dressing Down to Feed the Need

Feed the Need in Durham is the regional food distribution warehouse serving Durham Region. They provide food to emergency food providers such as food banks, soup kitchens, community service centres, shelters, drop-in centres, and breakfast feeding programs.

As a member of the Whitby Chamber of Commerce, we partnered with Feed the Need in Durham in their fight against hunger across the Durham Region with an August Food Drive Challenge! We joined our efforts with other companies throughout the Durham Region to Dress Down to Feed the Need on Friday’s throughout the month. Staff members brought in new products every Friday in exchange for dressing down in their favourite comfy clothes.

We have gathered a wide variety of donations from our staff and are so pleased to know that we are helping to transform our community. CPS employees donated 75 lbs. of non-perishable food and the company surpassed our donation with another 85 lbs. making a grand total of 157 lbs!

Feed the Need in Durham is always looking for more donations and encourages everyone to
donate what they can. Every little bit counts, and we at Complete Packaging encourage you to do your part to make your community a better place to live.

Time for Camp at Complete Packaging

Complete Packaging Systems is dedicated to helping the childrenScreen Shot 2015-07-29 at 9.40.23 AM in our community and this summer we will be funding a child’s adventure to the great outdoors!

Last year Complete Packaging spent time volunteering at Camp Oochigeas and helped the camp get ready. Camp Oochigeas is a privately funded, volunteer-based organization that provides kids with and affected by cancer. This camp has unique opportunities for growth through challenging, fun, enriching and magical experiences.

Screen Shot 2015-07-29 at 9.39.59 AMThis year we have decided to show our support by sending a child to Camp Oochigeas for 1 full week! Campers will get to swim, canoe, kayak, waterski, rock climb, and other exciting summer sports. Campers also get to participate in drama classes and join in arts & crafts. This is an amazing chance for children to make new friends and great memories.

Camp Oochigeas succeeds at taking good care of their campers with multiple nurses and a doctor on staff to care of anyone who needs treatment. Campers will be able to receive chemo and blood transfusions if needed while visiting the camp. Their goal is to provide a safe and happy environment for all children who are looking to have some fun in the sun.

We can’t wait to give a camper this amazing opportunity and look forward to doing our part again in the years to come!
